Santa Barbara Prepares for 250th 4th of July

Santa Barbara, California, is preparing for its 250th 4th of July celebration, marking a major milestone in American history. The city’s waterfront will be the hub of festivities, featuring live music, entertainment, and fireworks.

Community Comes Together

Locals and visitors alike are looking forward to the celebration, which promises to be an exciting event for all ages. Event organizer Roger Perry expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “They’re going to have a great time. They always do. This beach is packed shoulder to shoulder. The entertainment is over the top and the fireworks are priceless.”

Amaris Ocampo Gonzalez, a Santa Barbara resident, shared her plans for the holiday, saying, “I’m excited… I think I’m going to watch the fireworks with my mom and my dad.” The city’s waterfront was already drawing crowds ahead of the holiday, with warm temperatures and sunny skies creating perfect conditions for outdoor activities.

Honoring the Milestone

The Santa Barbara Historical Museum is hosting a pop-up photo exhibition featuring archival images from the Santa Barbara News-Press, highlighting decades of 4th of July celebrations in the city. Executive Director Dacia Harwood said, “So in honor of America 250, we just decided this would be a really fun collection to share and get people really excited about celebrating this very big moment in history.” The exhibit will be open to the public on Sunday after the holiday and is free to attend.

The city is also hosting a beach cleanup at several local beaches from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to help keep the coastline clean after the celebrations. For more information on the clean-up and sign-ups, visitors can check the city’s official website.
