Scott Wiener, the current San Francisco State Senator, has made lowering the cost of living for San Franciscans his top priority. Wiener’s plan includes funding mixed-income social housing, expanding section 8 rental vouchers, building homes more quickly, and enacting Medicare for All to lower healthcare costs and expand access.
Both candidates have a strong background in San Francisco politics, with Wiener representing District 8 from 2011 to 2016 and Chan chairing the city’s Budget Committee for the past four years.
The winner of the election will have the potential to stay in the seat for years, building seniority and possibly joining party leadership or securing a seat on Congress’s most powerful committees.
