The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority has approved $5 million to collaborate with the Oklahoma Arts Council on public art projects along state turnpikes, starting with the Toby Keith Expressway. This initiative aims to enhance the state’s appeal and make it more attractive to visitors.
Project Details
The first project will be on the Toby Keith Expressway and will include references to the Oklahoma music legend. Renderings of the artwork are expected to be released at the next Oklahoma Turnpike Authority meeting on September 1.
Board members shared their enthusiasm for the initiative, saying it could make a significant difference in the state’s appeal. “I’ve seen this in just one other state that I travel, and I’ve traveled a lot of different states across the country, and it makes such a difference. And it sends such a message about Oklahoma and the pride we have in our state,” said Dana Weber, an OTA board member.
