A wildfire sent heavy smoke over Newcastle Tuesday as crews battled flames near NW 24th Street and North Council Road. The fire was burning in a grassy area, and McClain County Undersheriff James Goins said NW 24th Street was closed due to the fire.
Evacuations were ordered in the area at about 4:30 p.m. The exact areas impacted by the fire and whether the evacuation order is still ongoing are not yet known. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
