Renton Parks hosts annual Pooch Plunge for dogs at Henry Moses Aquatic Center

Renton’s Parks and Recreation Department kicked off the fall season with its beloved Pooch Plunge at the Henry Moses Aquatic Center. The family‑friendly event, held on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12 and 13, gave dogs of all sizes a chance to splash, play, and cool off before the community pools close for the season.

Event details and schedule

Each day featured multiple 45‑minute swim sessions, allowing owners to rotate their pets through the shallow, supervised water area. The schedule was designed to accommodate a steady flow of participants while maintaining safety and cleanliness. Staff and volunteers were on hand to monitor the water, provide guidance, and ensure that all canine guests enjoyed a safe experience.

Supporting local animal shelters

In keeping with the department’s tradition of community service, the Pooch Plunge also served as a donation drive for local animal shelters. Attendees were encouraged to bring bags of dog food, which were collected throughout the weekend and earmarked for shelters in need. The initiative reflects Renton’s commitment to caring for both pets and the families that love them.

Looking ahead

While the aquatic center will close its pools for the remainder of the year, the department has already announced plans to reopen the facility in the summer of 2027. Residents can expect the same family‑oriented programming, including future Pooch Plunge events, swimming lessons, and recreational activities.

Community response

Local dog owners praised the event for providing a fun, low‑cost outing that strengthens neighborhood bonds. “It’s wonderful to see families and their pets enjoying the water together,” said one participant. “The donation drive is a great bonus that helps our shelters keep animals fed and cared for.” The positive feedback underscores the value of community‑driven programs that promote health, recreation, and charitable giving.

For more information about upcoming park events, donation opportunities, or the Henry Moses Aquatic Center’s schedule, residents can visit the City of Renton’s Parks and Recreation website or follow the department’s social‑media channels.
