The Raleigh community is coming together to support Frank Barton, the owner of Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery in Five Points, who is recovering after a life-changing spinal cord injury. In a social media post, the restaurant said Barton was in an accident at his home in March and now needs round-the-clock care.
Community Support
A GoFundMe campaign was created to help support Barton, his wife Marget, and his family. The funds raised will go towards medical bills, long-term care, and specialized wheelchairs. Barton opened the restaurant 29 years ago in 1998, and community members said since then, Barton has gone above and beyond for friends, customers, and neighbors.
The restaurant plans to partner with a local non-profit to help support Barton’s recovery in the coming weeks. Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery was featured by the Tar Heel Traveler in 2024.
