The Raleigh City Council unanimously passed a $1.76 billion budget on Monday, which includes a 1.7 cent property tax increase. This increase will result in about $67 more per year for a median Raleigh home, valued at approximately $450,000.
Budget Details
The fiscal year 2027 budget aims to protect existing services while adjusting to current fiscal pressures. According to City Manager Marchell Adams-David, the budget reflects difficult decisions grounded in fiscal stewardship, positioning Raleigh to sustain high standards of service.
The city will have a general fund budget of $652.8 million when the new fiscal year begins July 1. The budget closes a $13 million gap through strategic realignments, eliminating open positions, and holding vacant positions open. It also includes an 11% raise for public safety employees and adds 23 sworn police officers, six call takers for 911, and three fire marshals.
A $2 million general fund subsidy will continue the two-hour free parking at five downtown city-owned garages. The budget supports the Fire Master Plan by adding 12 firefighters and making the second fire academy permanent.
