Prosecutors in Kentucky intend to seek the death penalty for 18-year-old Brailen Weaver, accused of a deadly bank shooting in Berea, a town about 40 miles south of Lexington. On April 30, Weaver allegedly walked into a U.S. Bank, shot and killed two employees, and then fled in a car.
According to a federal complaint, the victims were bank employee Breanna Edwards and bank teller Brian Switzer. After identifying Weaver as the suspect, a chase ensued on Interstate 75, leading to a crash and Weaver’s arrest.
Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced that Weaver was indicted on two counts of murder and one count of fleeing and evading. If convicted, the AG’s office plans to pursue the death penalty.
