Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Return to the United Kingdom for Extended Stay

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, arrived in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, beginning an extended stay in Harry’s native country. The family’s plane touched down in Birmingham, a detail reported by The Telegraph, which also released a photo of the aircraft.

Return after Six Years Abroad

The couple and their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, have lived in Montecito, California, since 2020, when they stepped away from their senior royal duties. Their move marks the first time the Sussex family has returned to the UK since that decision.

Plans for the Children

According to a source familiar with the matter, Archie and Lilibet will be enrolled in school during the family’s extended period in the United Kingdom. Specific schools and the family’s residence have not been disclosed publicly.

No Immediate Return to Royal Duties

Sources indicate there is no plan for Harry and Meghan to resume their senior royal roles. When they stepped back in 2020, it was agreed they would no longer use the “Royal Highness” titles, would not represent the monarch, and would not receive public funds for royal duties, allowing them to earn income independently.

Family Reactions

A source told ABC News that King Charles III was informed of the couple’s decision on August 16 and is looking forward to seeing more of his family. Neither the Sussexes nor Buckingham Palace have provided public comments on the move.

Media Coverage

The BBC was the first outlet to report the Sussex family’s return, followed by other UK news organizations. A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan declined to comment to ABC News.
