Prince George’s Chamber urges businesses to strengthen foundations and pursue new growth avenues in 2026

In a message to the business community, Alexander K. Austin, President and CEO of the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the dual focus needed for success in 2026. He said firms must first reinforce core operations—tightening costs, improving efficiency and rebuilding trusted relationships—before reaching for expansion opportunities.

Building a stronger foundation

Austin explained that many companies are returning to fundamentals after recent economic turbulence. “Strengthening the foundation is only part of the opportunity,” he wrote. By tightening supply chains, optimizing staffing and sharpening financial controls, businesses can create a stable platform from which to launch new initiatives.

Exploring new sources of value

Beyond solid basics, the Chamber identified several pathways for growth. Companies may consider entering untapped regional markets, developing innovative products or services, establishing recurring‑revenue models, forming strategic partnerships, or even creating entirely new business verticals. Austin emphasized that the firms best positioned for the next economic cycle will be those that can blend a robust foundation with fresh value creation.

Local support and resources

The Chamber pledged to continue connecting members with the information, resources and networking opportunities needed to pursue these strategies. “Our role is to help businesses evolve by providing relationships, data and access to programs that can accelerate growth,” Austin said. He encouraged members to visit the Chamber’s website for upcoming workshops, mentorship programs and partnership forums.

Why this matters for Prince George’s County

Prince George’s County has a diverse economic base, ranging from government contractors to retail and health‑care providers. Strengthening existing businesses while fostering new ventures can boost job creation, increase tax revenues and enhance the county’s overall resilience. The Chamber’s call to action aligns with broader regional goals of sustainable development and economic stability.

Next steps for businesses

Austin urged companies to conduct internal reviews of their operational health, set clear cost‑management targets and map out potential growth projects for the coming year. He also invited business leaders to attend the Chamber’s quarterly roundtables, where they can share best practices and explore collaborative opportunities.
