In Polk County, Florida, a routine traffic stop for littering led to significant drug trafficking charges early Thursday morning. Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a white 2016 Kia Sonata after observing trash being thrown from the vehicle near Rifle Range Road and State Road 60, south of Wahneta.
Traffic Stop Uncovers Methamphetamine
The driver, James Allen Wesley, 58, of Lake Wales, and passenger, Staci Nichole Campos, 51, of Seminole, were identified during the stop. Upon inspection, deputies discovered baggage containing methamphetamine inside the vehicle. A thorough search revealed additional quantities of the drug, totaling 18.98 grams.
Both Wesley and Campos were subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree felony trafficking in methamphetamine, third-degree felony tampering with evidence, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition to these charges, they received citations for littering.
