Pam Bondi to Testify on Epstein Files Before Congress

Former Attorney General Pam Bondi is scheduled to testify today before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. This testimony follows a prolonged standoff over the Department of Justice’s management of the Jeffrey Epstein investigative files.

Congressional Inquiry

The committee’s interest intensified after allegations surfaced that FBI staff were instructed to flag mentions of former President Donald Trump in the Epstein files. Recent disclosures revealed Trump’s name appeared over 1,000 times, with some documents allegedly withheld from public release in 2025.

Bondi, who was removed from her position by President Trump in April, had initially promised transparency regarding Epstein’s files. She had claimed that a list of Epstein’s clients was ready for release, but later, the DOJ announced that such a list did not exist.

Legal and Legislative Actions

In response to the controversy, Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act in November 2025, mandating the DOJ to release the full investigative files by December 19, 2025. Although the DOJ missed this deadline, it eventually released over three million pages in January 2026.

Outside oversight groups, including American Oversight, have increased legal pressure, filing lawsuits to compel the release of additional documents and communications. A federal court has ordered the DOJ and FBI to produce at least 350 pages of non-exempt records monthly, starting May 30.

Implications and Expectations

Today’s hearing is seen as a crucial opportunity for lawmakers to question Bondi about potential directives to shield public officials from scrutiny, which would violate the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Previous subpoenas have already unveiled significant details, such as a birthday book drawing Trump reportedly made for Epstein and an email from Epstein alleging Trump’s awareness of illicit activities.
