Plant City Family Tragedy: Quadruple Murder Case Remains Unsolved

In Plant City, Florida, the community is still grappling with the tragic loss of a family, nearly a month after the quadruple murder of a woman, her two young children, and their grandmother. The incident, which occurred on May 3, has left the town in shock and searching for answers.

The victims, including a four-year-old and a four-month-old, were found shot to death in shrubbery on West Tever Street. Their mother, 28-year-old Hailey Dempsey, was discovered critically injured in a nearby home and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Dempsey’s 55-year-old mother was found dead at another location on North Burton Street.

Community Response and Vigil

In the wake of this tragedy, community members gathered for a vigil to honor the lives lost and to show support for one another. Luisa Ruiz, the vigil organizer, emphasized the importance of community solidarity, particularly for mothers who might feel isolated. “I did see myself in the victim, being a 26-year-old mother as well,” Ruiz shared, highlighting the shared sense of vulnerability and the need for communal support.

Calls for Action and Support

Frustration over the lack of progress in the case has been palpable. Hayley Milkes, a domestic violence survivor, is advocating for the establishment of a dedicated domestic violence unit within the Plant City Police Department. Inspired by the tragedy, Milkes has also founded a nonprofit, The Fifth Call, aimed at supporting domestic violence survivors and promoting proactive measures rather than reactive ones. “There’s nothing within a ten-mile radius for a woman or man to go to for help until it’s too late,” Milkes stated, underscoring the urgent need for resources and support systems.

Ongoing Investigation

Despite having potential suspects in mind, the Plant City Police Department has yet to make any arrests. They have called upon the community to provide any security camera footage from the areas between the two crime scenes. The police department remains committed to solving the case and urges anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay.

The Plant City community continues to hope for answers and justice for the victims, as they keep the memory of Hailey Dempsey and her family alive through ongoing awareness efforts.
