The Pittsburgh Pirates couldn’t keep the magic going Tuesday night in Philadelphia, dropping game two of their four-game series to the Phillies 8-0 at Citizens Bank Park.
Tonight’s Matchup
Phillies ace Cristopher Sanchez was dominant, and it all started in the second inning when J.T. Crawford laced a two-run single down the third base line — and that turned out to be all Sanchez needed. The Phillies tacked on more in the seventh when a Crawford sacrifice bunt helped set up a Trea Turner R-B-I double, and a Kyle Schwarber single ended Bubba Chandler’s night.
Sanchez improved to ten and three on the year, now carrying a two-even E-R-A. Chandler took the loss, falling to three and eight with a four-sixty-two E-R-A. Pittsburgh’s offense was completely silenced — the Pirates managed just two hits and left two runners in scoring position all night.
Tonight — now this is must-see baseball. Pittsburgh sends reigning N-L Cy Young winner Paul Skenes to the mound — six and seven with a three-ten E-R-A and one-fourteen strikeouts — against Phillies ace Zack Wheeler, who is a scorching eight and one with a two-oh-three E-R-A. Two of the best arms in the National League, going head to head. First pitch at 6:40pm EDT.
