Pinterest CFO Julia Donnelly to Depart in October, Interim Finance Lead Named

Pinterest, the popular image‑sharing platform, disclosed on Friday that its chief financial officer, Julia Donnelly, will exit the company on October 30. The announcement, made in a memo from CEO Bill Ready, highlighted Donnelly’s role in steering the firm through a period of sustained revenue growth and operational tightening.

Leadership transition and interim appointment

Effective immediately, Vikram Naidu, who currently serves as Pinterest’s vice president of finance and business operations, will assume the duties of principal financial officer on an interim basis. Naidu will oversee the company’s financial strategy while the board conducts an external search for a permanent CFO.

Donnelly’s tenure and achievements

Since joining Pinterest in 2023 from online furniture retailer Wayfair, where she was global head of finance, Donnelly helped deliver eleven consecutive quarters of double‑digit revenue growth. Under her stewardship, the company sharpened operating rigor and expanded profit margins, actions that Ready credited with ensuring the ongoing health of the business.

During her time, Pinterest completed the acquisition of connected‑TV advertising platform tvScientific and forged a $4 billion cloud‑services partnership with Amazon Web Services, moves intended to broaden the company’s advertising reach and technology infrastructure.

Future outlook

Earlier this month, Pinterest forecast slower third‑quarter revenue growth, citing intensified competition in digital advertising from larger platforms such as Meta’s Instagram. The leadership change comes as the company seeks to navigate a challenging market environment while continuing to innovate its ad products and user experience.

Donnelly is leaving Pinterest to pursue an opportunity at a private, early‑stage company, a decision she described as a new professional challenge. The board expressed gratitude for her contributions and wishes her success in her next venture.

Industry context

Pinterest’s executive shuffle reflects broader trends in the tech sector, where firms are reassessing leadership structures amid shifting advertising dollars and heightened competition. The appointment of an internal executive as interim CFO underscores a desire for continuity while the board evaluates external candidates who can drive the next phase of growth.

Stakeholders will be watching the upcoming CFO search closely, as the new leader will play a pivotal role in shaping Pinterest’s financial strategy, capital allocation, and response to market pressures.
