Natrona County health department reports recent food safety violations in Casper eateries

The Casper‑Natrona County Health Department published its weekly food‑safety inspection report covering the period August 21‑27, 2026. Inspectors visited restaurants, grocery stores, convenience outlets, mobile food units, commissaries and vending operations, conducting at least two unannounced inspections per facility each year.

How the inspections work

According to the department, violations fall into three categories: priority, priority‑foundation and core. The agency’s primary goal is not to punish but to educate business owners about unsafe practices and how to correct them. “There is no sliding scale or a pass or fail on a health inspection,” said the program manager for Environmental Health. “Every violation is either fixed immediately or within ten days, meaning a violation does not make the business unsafe.”

Key findings in Casper

Most establishments received few or no citations, but a handful required re‑inspections because of more serious deficiencies. Below is a snapshot of the most notable results:

  • Frida’s Mexican Restaurant of Casper East – 11 violations, re‑inspection required. Issues included the lack of a certified food‑protection manager, uncovered food in walk‑in coolers, low sanitizer concentration in the dish machine, and an improperly sealed back door that allowed insects and mice entry.
  • Rancheros Mexican Food – 9 violations, re‑inspection required. The restaurant had no written protocol for handling vomiting or diarrheal incidents, uncovered food throughout refrigeration units, and several food‑contact surfaces that were visibly soiled.
  • Panchos Mexican Food – 14 violations, re‑inspection required. Inspectors cited a staff member who failed to wash hands before food preparation, uncovered items in walk‑in coolers, cross‑contamination risks from raw animal products, and missing hand‑washing signage.
  • Haydens Place – 6 violations, re‑inspection required. Problems included missing hand‑washing signs, improper cold‑holding temperatures for raw meat, and a sanitizer concentration that exceeded legal limits.
  • C85 Branding Iron – 8 violations. The establishment lacked hand soap and disposable towels at a back sink, had pink slime in an ice machine, low chlorine levels in the bar dish machine, and an open electrical box posing an electrocution hazard.
  • Pilot Travel Center LLC #758 – 4 violations. The site missed a written vomiting/diarrhea response plan, lacked hand‑washing signage, and had a large gap in the lobby doors allowing insects and rodents entry.

Other businesses, such as Office Bar and Grill, Walgreens East #7462, Hampton Inn and Suites Food Service, and Loaf ’N Jug #131, received either no violations or minor issues that were promptly corrected.

What the department does next

When a re‑inspection is ordered, owners have ten days to address the cited problems. The health department reports that most facilities meet this deadline without difficulty. After corrective actions are verified, the violations are cleared, and the establishments remain open to the public.

Full inspection reports for each business are available on the Natrona County Health Department’s website, providing transparency for consumers who want to make informed dining choices.

Why this matters to Casper families

Food safety directly impacts the health of families and the broader community. By enforcing standards and offering guidance, the health department helps ensure that local eateries serve safe, wholesome meals—a priority for parents who want to protect their children’s well‑being. The agency’s educational approach aligns with the community’s values of personal responsibility and caring for one another.

Residents are encouraged to review the publicly posted reports and to voice any concerns to the health department. Ongoing vigilance helps keep Casper’s dining scene safe and vibrant.
