ESPN’s Paul Finebaum has offered a rebuttal to Bret Bielema, the Illinois head coach, after Bielema’s comments about the Southeastern Conference (SEC) wanting to live in the past. Finebaum brought out the facts, which don’t exactly put Bielema in the best light.

Bielema’s Comments

While speaking at Big Ten media days, Bielema elected to take a not-so-subtle shot at the SEC. He stated that SEC commissioner Greg Sankey wants to protect the SEC and that they want to live in 2005 forever. However, Finebaum was quick to remind people of Bielema’s history of coaching in the SEC, where he didn’t fare well.

Finebaum pointed out that since 2005, the SEC has won 13 national championships. He also highlighted Bielema’s record in the SEC, which was 11-29 during his time at Arkansas. Finebaum’s response was a strong defense of the SEC and a critique of Bielema’s comments.
