A Paragould woman is accused of trying to swallow a plastic bag containing 8.1 grams of methamphetamine before attempting to hide it in her clothing as an investigator moved to arrest her.

Charges and Investigation

Tracey Medley faces possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, a Class B felony; tampering with physical evidence, a Class D felony; and refusal to submit to arrest, a Class B misdemeanor. Investigators with the Paragould Police Department’s VICE unit received information that Medley was allegedly possessing and distributing methamphetamine, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Police said Medley appeared to conceal her identity by looking down, but the investigator recognized her tattoos. When the investigator approached, Medley allegedly had her mouth full and appeared to be swallowing a foreign object. Police said she tried to bring the object back up while walking away and then attempted to hide it in her pants.

The investigator identified the object as a tied plastic bag packaged in a manner police associated with drug distribution. Medley allegedly refused to allow the investigator to place her in handcuffs while she continued trying to conceal the bag.

Medley was eventually taken into custody. Police collected the bag, $505 in cash, and other evidence. After being advised of her Miranda rights, Medley allegedly told investigators she did not have a job and was selling drugs to make money.
