Palm Beach Approves Helipad at Mar-a-Lago

The Palm Beach Town Council has unanimously approved a new agreement allowing the helipad at Mar-a-Lago to remain in place after President Trump’s presidency, with strict limitations on its use. The helipad was initially approved last fall by the Palm Beach Landmarks Preservation Commission for official presidential business during Donald Trump’s term.

Under the new agreement, the helipad can only be used during Trump’s presidency for official business. After his term ends, its use will be restricted to limited emergency situations involving Donald or Melania Trump, as determined by the Secret Service. The agreement prohibits private, recreational, or club-related uses, including use by Mar-a-Lago members and guests.

Emergency Use

A Palm Beach resident and helicopter pilot, Bruce Taylor, highlighted the helipad’s potential value during emergencies, such as a major hurricane. Taylor said, ‘The first thing into that emergency is almost always a helicopter. And people don’t realize the value of, you know, when speed counts, helicopters, what you want, when your life is depending on that, that’s what you want.’

The agreement also stipulates that if Mar-a-Lago ceases to be the designated residence of Donald and Melania Trump, both of whom are Secret Service protectees, the helipad would have to be removed.
