Texas Court Restores NCAA Eligibility for QB

A Texas district court has issued a temporary injunction restoring the NCAA eligibility of Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby. The decision prevents the NCAA from enforcing its ban on Sorsby, who had been ruled ineligible for his final college season due to years of gambling, including at least 40 bets on his own team while a freshman at Indiana.

Big 12 Conference Response

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark and athletic directors from the conference met to discuss the situation and its implications. Yormark described the conversation as “thoughtful and productive” and stated that many athletic directors voiced their opinions on the matter.

The injunction includes a two-game suspension for Sorsby, who will miss games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State. The NCAA is appealing the decision to a higher Texas court.

Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin expressed concern over Sorsby’s actions, stating that betting on one’s own team is an “unpardonable sin” in sports and gambling.
