Oxnard police report fatal scooter crash on Rohdea Drive

Oxnard, Calif. – On Friday evening, just before 6:00 p.m., Oxnard Police Department officers responded to a report of a scooter accident in the 2700 block of Rohdea Drive. When they arrived, they found a 57‑year‑old woman lying on the sidewalk beside an electric scooter.

Paramedics were called to the scene and, after a brief assessment, declared the woman deceased. The cause of the fall and the injuries that led to her death remain unknown pending further investigation.

Police request public assistance

Detectives with the Oxnard Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident. Officers have asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has any information about what occurred on Rohdea Drive that evening to contact the department at the phone number provided in the original report.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details about the victim’s identity, the type of scooter involved, or any potential contributing factors such as road conditions, speed, or impairment. The Oxnard Police Department emphasized that they are treating the case with the utmost seriousness and will release further information as it becomes available.

Community safety reminder

While the circumstances of this tragic accident are still under review, local officials continue to encourage residents who use electric scooters to follow safety guidelines. Recommended practices include wearing a certified helmet, obeying traffic signals, and staying alert for pedestrians and other vehicles. The city of Oxnard has previously partnered with the California Department of Transportation to promote safe scooter usage on public sidewalks and roadways.

Residents who have concerns about scooter safety or who wish to learn more about local regulations can visit the Oxnard Police Department’s website or attend upcoming community safety meetings, which are regularly scheduled at the city’s municipal center.

What’s next?

The Oxnard Police Department will release a formal report once the investigation is complete. In the meantime, the department urges anyone with relevant information—such as video footage from nearby security cameras or eyewitness accounts—to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the department’s tip line or online portal.

This incident underscores the importance of vigilance when sharing public walkways with emerging modes of transportation. As electric scooters become more common in Southern California, city officials and law‑enforcement agencies are working together to ensure that both riders and pedestrians can coexist safely.
