Oklahoma Film ‘Better Together’ Explores Mental Health with Hopeful Message

A new film, ‘Better Together,’ shot entirely in Oklahoma, is making waves for its heartfelt approach to mental health. Directed by Kyle Roberts, the movie is a coming-of-age adventure that centers on a group of teenagers embarking on a journey to discover a hidden landmark in the Oklahoma wilderness. Through their adventure, the teens confront personal struggles such as anxiety and depression, bringing these important topics into the light.

Local Filming Locations

The film showcases stunning Oklahoma locations, including Turner Falls, Robbers Cave, and Mount Scott, highlighting the state’s natural beauty. Roberts emphasized the challenge of creating a film that is both family-friendly and genuine in its portrayal of mental health issues. ‘We wanted to address these topics in a real and honest way,’ Roberts explained, noting the importance of sparking conversations between parents and their children.

Partnership with Mental Health Lifeline

The production partnered with the mental health lifeline 988 from the outset, aiming to provide a supportive resource for audiences. Roberts hopes that ‘Better Together’ will encourage open dialogue about mental health, especially within families. ‘It’s hard to get teenagers to open up, but hopefully, this film will inspire those conversations,’ he said, drawing from his own experiences as a father.

With 16 locations filmed over 18 days, the movie not only tells a compelling story but also serves as a visual tour of Oklahoma’s landscapes. ‘Better Together’ is more than just a film; it’s a call to action for families to engage in meaningful discussions about mental health, underscoring the message that no one is alone in their struggles.
