The city of Louisville is paying tribute to the legendary Muhammad Ali on the tenth anniversary of his passing. The Muhammad Ali Center is spearheading a series of events that celebrate Ali’s enduring legacy of community service and compassion.
Day of Compassion
Inaugurating a new tradition, the Muhammad Ali Center has announced the Day of Compassion, set to occur annually on June 3. This day is dedicated to community service, reflecting Ali’s lifelong commitment to helping others. Partnering with Metro United Way, the center aims to unite nonprofits, schools, and local communities in service activities.
Over the course of three days, 375 volunteers will prepare, pack, and distribute 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies and 5,000 healthy snack kits. Volunteers from the Ali Center, including Ali’s wife, Lonnie Ali, will also assist in meal preparation at Feed Louisville Kitchen.
Daughters of Greatness
On Friday, the Ali Center will honor Renee Shaw, Director of Public Affairs and Moderator at Kentucky Educational Television, as the next Daughter of Greatness. This recognition is given to women who embody Ali’s core values and have made significant contributions in their fields.
Muhammad Ali Festival Carnival
The celebration continues with the Muhammad Ali Festival Carnival, returning to the Ali Center on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. This free event offers games, activities for families, face painting, balloon artists, and live local performances. During the carnival, all exhibits at the Ali Center will be open to guests at no charge, with free registration available online.
