Oklahoma County commissioners unanimously approved a 14-day burn ban during an emergency meeting, citing high winds, temperatures, and dry conditions as reasons for the restriction.
David Barnes, director of Oklahoma County Emergency Management, said the county needs to be under a burn ban due to the current weather conditions. Fire crews have been battling several fires across the county and state.
The burn ban prohibits any outdoor burning for 14 days. However, grilling outside is not included in the ban. Barnes urged residents to exercise caution and watch out for ignition sources, calling 911 immediately if they see smoke or fire before attempting to extinguish it themselves.
