Watson’s, an Ohio‑based retailer of hot tubs, pool supplies and other home recreation products, confirmed it has acquired Tampa Bay Spas. The deal brings three new locations in Tampa, Lakeland and Brandon under the Watson’s brand.
Strategic growth in Florida
President and CEO Erik Mueller said the acquisition fits the company’s long‑term growth strategy. “Tampa was kind of our next natural transition,” Mueller explained. “It was a market that we were very much interested in being in, so when this opportunity presented itself, the strategies aligned.”
Mueller noted that Tampa Bay Spas has been in business for more than 25 years and already possesses the infrastructure Watson’s was seeking. The three stores are expected to transition to the Watson’s brand within the next six months.
Broader expansion plans
Watson’s now operates 42 corporate and franchise stores, including seven in Florida. The recent purchase follows earlier acquisitions of Sarasota Hot Springs and Recreational Warehouse, which added locations in Fort Myers, Naples and Port Charlotte.
“We like the long‑term prospect of the portable spa business,” Mueller said. “I still think the total addressable market is a good‑sized opportunity across the country.” The company plans to grow to more than 75 locations over the next several years, focusing on acquisitions that match its cultural values and existing infrastructure.
Local reaction
Dave Corson, co‑owner of Tampa Bay Spas, expressed optimism about the partnership. “For over 50 years, Watson’s has been providing their customers with industry‑leading experiences, and we look forward to growing the Florida market together,” Corson said in a prepared statement.
Mueller added that Watson’s will continue to seek “the right acquisitions that make sense for us,” emphasizing a measured approach rather than aggressive expansion. He highlighted the importance of cultural fit and the ability to leverage existing logistics and service networks.
What this means for the region
The acquisition is expected to create new jobs and expand product offerings for Florida consumers, while reinforcing Watson’s presence in the southeastern market. Local retailers and customers can anticipate a broader selection of hot tubs, fire pits, saunas and related recreation items under the Watson’s brand.
Watson’s plans to maintain the high level of service that Tampa Bay Spas customers have come to expect, while integrating the company’s national supply chain and warranty support.
