Off Duty Dallas Isd Officer Critically Wounded In Walmart Shooting

An off-duty Dallas ISD police officer was critically wounded in a shooting outside a Walmart in North Dallas Thursday morning. The officer, identified as 39-year-old Justin Jones, was flagged down by a person in crisis on a nearby highway and drove that person to the Walmart parking lot, where the shooting took place.

Investigation Underway

According to Dallas ISD Chief of Police Albert Martinez, Jones is in critical condition after being shot at least once in the lower torso and is undergoing surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. Another ISD police officer provided first aid and applied a tourniquet before Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics took Jones to the hospital.

A person is in custody in connection with the shooting, but no other information has been released. The Dallas Police Department is investigating the incident, and a number of police officers are searching the area around the store.
