The Dallas Police Department held a ceremony to unveil a portrait of fallen Officer Darron Burks at the South Central Patrol Division. The event served as a tribute to Burks, who was ambushed in his squad car two years ago.

Family and Fraternity Brothers Attend Ceremony

Department leaders, officers, family members, and fraternity brothers gathered to honor Burks’ life and service. Chief Daniel Comeaux said the portrait will stand as a permanent reminder of Burks’ sacrifice.

Burks’ family was welcomed with honors during the ceremony. Deputy Chief Jordan Colunga praised Burks’ character and dedication, saying his passion and drive defined the way he served the department. Colunga also commended Burks’ mother, Cherie Burks Jeffrey, for her strength since her son’s death.

Jeffrey spoke publicly for the first time since her son’s funeral, expressing gratitude to those who have continued to honor her son’s memory. She reflected on Burks’ life of service, noting he first worked as a teacher before becoming a Dallas police officer.

Lt. Frederick Mears remembered Burks’ impact on those who served alongside him. Burks’ Omega fraternity brothers, including Comeaux, also attended the ceremony to pay their respects.

For Jeffrey, her Christian faith continues to provide comfort as she remembers her son. She said, ‘I know that he is in heaven with Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is our Savior and our Lord. And I know one day I will see his face. I will see my son’s face,’
