Ellicott City’s Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar is set to close its doors at the end of August due to decreasing sales. The store, which was known for its over-the-top milkshakes, will be replaced by a new community-oriented music and arts venue called ‘The Corner’.
The Corner: A New Community Venue
The Corner will be operated by Jeni Porter, who owns the Little Market Café. Porter has had her eye on the building space for years and had previously planned to open a music venue there in 2018, but was forced to abandon the project due to flooding. She revisited the idea in 2020, but decided it was not the right time. When she learned that the Crazy Mason owners were closing the store, she saw an opportunity to finally bring her vision to life.
The Corner will feature live music, plays, and comedy, and will also host movies and other events. Porter hopes to create a space that will inspire people and foster a sense of community. The venue will be run by the Ripple Effect Collective, a nonprofit organization that aims to ‘transform the power of music, art, food, creativity, and people gathering into something that builds stronger community.’
Porter envisions The Corner as a gathering place, similar to a living room, where people can come together and enjoy each other’s company. She hopes to introduce The Corner and the Ripple Effect Collective to the community at the Main Street Music Fest on September 19.
