North Texas Students Escort World Cup Stars

Some North Texas students had the rare opportunity to be on the pitch and escort players at the first World Cup game in Dallas Stadium. The students, who received services from the Puede Network in Oak Cliff, escorted the players from Japan and the Netherlands onto the field before the match started.

Local Perspective

One of the students, Destiny Maldonado, a 5th-grade student, escorted the Netherlands team and said, “I felt good because he plays defender, and sometimes I play defender and I could learn more from him.” Another student, Noah Ayden Soto, a 6th-grade student, will escort a player from England onto the pitch and said his friends don’t believe him.

Eric Gonzalez, the director of operations for Puede Network, said, “It was a surreal moment. It’s exciting seeing the parents’ faces as the kids were going to the bus. Some parents had tears of joy.” The Puede Network will have their students escort players for the next seven matches.
