The 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to North Texas, with Arlington’s AT&T Stadium set to host nine matches. KERA News spoke with some North Texans about their favorite memories from past World Cups and the impact soccer has had on their lives.

A strength and conditioning coach for FC Dallas shared his favorite World Cup moment, which was watching the 2006 World Cup final. An attorney recalled how watching the World Cup highlighted major periods of her life and sparked a lifelong passion for soccer.

A relationship banker has been watching every World Cup since the 2006 final and is excited to see the tournament come to Dallas. A landscaper and manager of the Liga Azteca Soccer League remembered a wholesome moment when his neighbors came together to celebrate a Mexico goal in the 2014 World Cup.

A general manager of the Fort Worth Vaqueros FC recalled attending a World Cup match in 1994 and described the tournament as a global party that brings people together. An emergency room discharge coordinator shared how the World Cup brings her family and friends together, with flags, food, and jerseys.

A retired teacher and soccer coach has been following the World Cup since 1978 and has coached youth sports for many years. He described soccer as his first love and the impact it has had on his life.
