The NFL has decided not to hold a supplemental draft this year, informing quarterback Brendan Sorsby of its decision in a letter. Sorsby had applied for the supplemental draft after being declared ineligible by the NCAA due to his involvement in improper gambling activity during his college career.
NCAA Ineligibility
Sorsby, who had transferred from Cincinnati to Texas Tech, was banished from competition by the NCAA for his gambling activity, which included making thousands of bets on sporting events worth at least $90,000. He had spent a month in a residential treatment program for a diagnosed addiction that led to the gambling activity.
The NFL encouraged Sorsby to focus on preparing for possible entry into the league through the 2027 NFL Annual Draft. The league stated that it had not conducted a supplemental draft for several years and had no plans to do so this year, as no other player had sought entry.
