President Trump signed Lulu’s Law on Friday, a new measure requiring emergency alerts to be sent to cell phones in the event of a shark attack. The law states that the Federal Communications Commission must issue an order explicitly permitting the transmission of the wireless emergency alerts.
Lulu’s Law Background
The law is named after Lulu Gribbin, a teenager who lost a hand and part of a leg while diving for sand dollars off the coast of the Florida Panhandle. Ninety minutes before that, a different woman was attacked about four miles away, losing her arm.
