The Rogers Aquatic Center is preparing for a larger-than-usual crowd as high temperatures settle in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley. With temperatures forecasted to stay in the 90s this week, the aquatic center is taking steps to ensure visitors can stay cool and hydrated.
Staying Cool and Hydrated
Jillian Allen, a supervisor at the Rogers Aquatics Center, said that extra water stations will be available during the week due to the heat. Other refreshments and ice cream will also be available for people to stay hydrated and to cool off.
Allen emphasized the importance of prevention, saying that visitors should stay hydrated before they even feel thirsty and wear sunscreen and heat protectant clothing. New swimmers should also be prepared to wear a life jacket.
In addition to the Rogers Aquatic Center, some cooling centers will also be open as temperatures heat up. Hope Campus in Fort Smith will open their cooling center when air temperatures reach 95 degrees, and the Salvation Army in Bentonville will open their cooling center when heat index values are at or above 100 degrees.
