New Elizabeth Holmes Documentary Premieres at Telluride Film Festival

The Telluride Film Festival in Colorado hosted the world premiere of “You Can See Everything,” a documentary that follows former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes during the days leading up to her federal prison sentence in Texas in 2023. The film was created by comedian‑filmmaker Nathan Fielder and director Lance Oppenheim, with production support from A24.

Holmes, who was convicted of fraud and sentenced to ten years and three months in prison, invited the crew into her home to document her daily life with her partner, Billy Evans, and their two children. The filmmakers captured scenes at a rental house in San Diego, showing the family’s interactions with Fielder as they prepared for Holmes’s impending incarceration.

In addition to on‑location footage, the documentary includes recreated conversations between Holmes and Fielder that took place after she entered prison. These reenactments were performed by an unnamed actress, a detail that Fielder asked audience members not to disclose.

During a post‑screening Q&A, Fielder described the experience as “weird” and said it “messed with my head,” expressing uncertainty about why he was chosen for the project. He emphasized that the film aims to provide insight into the psychological makeup of individuals who achieve fame at a young age and later fall from grace.

Industry and public reaction

Aron Solomon, chief strategy officer for Amplify, suggested the documentary could serve as a case study for understanding the mindset of high‑profile entrepreneurs who become embroiled in legal trouble. He noted the growing number of young innovators who have faced criminal charges, pointing to a broader pattern worth examining.

The film is slated for a theatrical release in October, with A24 handling distribution. Early reactions from festival attendees highlight the film’s intimate access to Holmes’s personal life and the ethical questions surrounding a convicted felon’s participation in a public media project.

Context and background

Holmes’s rise and fall have remained a focal point of national conversation about startup culture, corporate accountability, and the consequences of fraudulent business practices. The documentary adds a new visual record to the extensive media coverage that began with the 2022 “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley” series and subsequent court proceedings.

While the film offers unprecedented behind‑the‑scenes footage, critics caution that any portrayal of Holmes must be weighed against the seriousness of her convictions. Nonetheless, the documentary’s debut underscores continued public fascination with the Theranos saga and its broader implications for the tech industry.
