New Albany’s Planning Commission has passed an ordinance to temporarily ban data center developments in the city. The proposal, introduced by Mayor Jeff Gahan, aims to give city leaders time to research guidelines for future projects and hear concerns from residents.
Some residents voiced their opinions at the meeting, expressing support for the pause. “I am glad that they’re taking the opportunity just not to throw a data center up like some of the other communities, but to really, like, put it out and try to do some research to make sure, it’s not really hurting the community,” said New Albany resident Derrick Mangas.
Next Steps
The New Albany City Council will have the final vote on whether to adopt the proposed data center ordinance. The pause on data center development is intended to allow for more careful consideration of the potential impact on the community.
