A Louisville family is mourning the loss of 19-year-old Isaiah Warner, who was found shot inside his car in the Buechel neighborhood and later died at the hospital. Warner’s family didn’t realize he was the young man mentioned in the headlines until they tracked his phone to the Louisville Metro Police Department impound lot.
A Family’s Pain
Warner’s grandmother, Debra Warner, remembered the morning she discovered her grandson was missing. She had seen a Facebook news story about a 19-year-old shot in a car in the same area where Warner’s car had been towed from. ‘I think Isaiah’s gone,’ she said. The family is still searching for answers and grappling with a grief they know all too well.
Warner’s father, Devon Warner, was shot and killed in October 2022, just three months after gaining custody of his son. The family is now mourning another loss that feels heartbreakingly generational. ‘Going through what she went through with my brother, you know, and then to turn around and have to go through the same thing with Isaiah, it’s wrong,’ said Warner’s aunt, Monique Hines.
The family has started a GoFundMe to help pay for Warner’s funeral and is seeking justice for his death. ‘We need to know what happened to him. Why would they do that? He didn’t deserve it,’ Warner’s grandmother said.
