Retired Navy SEALs, veterans, first responders, and supporters gathered in New York Harbor for the annual NYC SEAL Swim, a patriotic event honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s heroes.
Honoring the Fallen
The event, which combines swimming and physical challenges with tributes to those who served and sacrificed, was held against the backdrop of the Statue of Liberty. Retired Navy SEAL Brad Geary said, ‘This is all about honoring our fallen, honoring our country, honoring God.’
Bill Brown, who founded the NYC SEAL Swim, chose the location for its symbolic significance. ‘We love this country,’ he said, referencing the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as representations of American freedoms and diversity.
Jimmy May, a retired SEAL commander, founded Beyond the Brotherhood, the event’s 2026 beneficiary, after struggling with his own transition from military to civilian life and losing four friends to suicide. The organization aims to provide a support network for fellow SEALs and has received an outpouring of support from across the country.
The gathering brought together veterans, first responders, supporters, and families of the fallen, including Gold Star mom Cindy Dietz, whose son, Navy SEAL Danny Dietz, was killed in Afghanistan in 2005. ‘It means so much to be here with the team guys,’ she said.
