Fredenhagen Park, located at the entrance to North Central College and downtown Naperville, was opened on November 27, 2003, and officially dedicated on May 22, 2004. The park is a tribute to Grace and Walter Fredenhagen from their children, Rita Harvard and Ted Fredenhagen, and represents generous gifts from hundreds of local residents, businesses, and service organizations.
The park features the Exchange Club Memories Fountain as its centerpiece and a Century Walk sculpture of Grace and Walter Fredenhagen titled “Two in a Million” near the Clock Tower. The park’s design, which includes arbors, gardens, plazas, bricks, and granite stones, provides a peaceful walk and reveals carefully chosen expressions of gratitude, love, and significance.
Twenty-two years after its opening, the park still sparkles with much of its original splendor, providing a photo backdrop for graduations, engagements, and weddings. The Exchange Club Memories Fountain is again flowing, fulfilling Rita Harvard’s wishes to create a quiet place to pause and reflect in the heart of Naperville.
