A Fayette County Public Schools school resource officer is being celebrated in a big way this week, earning a special Hometown Hero tribute from the Lexington Legends baseball club.
According to The Lane Report and The Lexington Times, the officer — who serves students and staff in FCPS schools — was recognized by the Legends for completing a remarkable 50-mile walk. The achievement caught the attention of the local minor league team, which honored the officer with the Hometown Hero designation at a recent game.
The Hometown Hero program is one of the ways the Lexington Legends connect with and celebrate members of the community who go above and beyond in service to others. Being spotlighted at a Legends game puts a well-deserved public spotlight on the dedication and commitment that school resource officers bring to their work every day.
It’s a feel-good moment that highlights the strong bond between Lexington’s schools, its community institutions, and the people who serve them — a fitting story as the city heads into a holiday weekend full of patriotic celebration.
