Brian and Christoper Cotter, owners of Davis Mortuary in Pueblo, Colorado, have been arrested following a lengthy investigation into allegations of leaving dozens of bodies to decay in their funeral home.
Investigation Details
According to records by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), the mortuary was due for an inspection in August 2025. Inspectors noted a strong odor of decomposition and discovered a hidden door, which led to the discovery of bodies in various stages of decomposition.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reported that a total of 24 bodies, along with multiple containers of bones and probable human tissue, were transferred to the El Paso County Coroner’s Office for attempted identification. As of May, 18 bodies had been identified using Forensic Genetic Genealogy (FGG), a process that involves using public DNA databases to find distant relatives and build family trees.
