A moped rider has critical injuries after colliding with a pickup truck in Waterbury on Tuesday night. Officers responded to the 1000 block of Meriden Road shortly before 7 p.m. for a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a moped.

Investigators said the driver of a pickup truck was attempting to turn into a private driveway when it collided with a moped. The 18-year-old moped driver suffered serious internal injuries and was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment, according to police.

The man from Waterbury is currently in critical condition. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the collision and did not need medical attention. The investigation is active and ongoing.
