Moldova’s President Maia Sandu has named Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu as the country’s new acting prime minister. Osmochescu, who is also the minister of economic development and digitalization, will take office on Wednesday.
Osmochescu’s appointment comes after the unexpected resignation of former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu on Friday. Munteanu cited his inability to continue in the role in accordance with his convictions as the reason for his resignation.
Prior to joining the government, Osmochescu worked at the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank’s private sector arm. He will chair a meeting of the government on Wednesday, which will continue in an interim capacity until a new government is appointed by parliament.
