The Miami-Dade County Public Schools is one step closer to selecting its next superintendent. On Wednesday, board members are expected to vote between two finalists: Rafael Villalobos, the district’s South Region superintendent, and Ernie Lozano, Broward County Public Schools Chief Human Resources Officer.
Finalists Emerge
Villalobos and Lozano emerged as the two frontrunners from a pool of six semifinalists. The board is scheduled to hold public interviews on Wednesday morning, and then a vote is expected to happen.
Current superintendent, Dr. Jose Dotres, is in the last year of his contract. Dotres has been leading the nation’s third-largest school district since 2022.
