Bastrop’s Mayfest Park is gearing up for the 2026 Bastrop Homecoming & Rodeo with significant upgrades. City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino announced during a recent city council meeting that bids are currently open for concrete foundations necessary for the installation of new bleachers and shade covers at the park, located at 25 American Legion Drive.
Project Details and Funding
The city has listed the project on CivCast, with a bid deadline set for June 9. The Bastrop City Council has also approved the first reading of a budget amendment allocating $477,110 for the shade covers. Finance Director Judy Sandroussi explained that the funding will come from the city’s fiscal year 2025-26 bond series, which also supports projects like the Old Iron Bridge and other quality-of-life park initiatives.
Enhancing Community Events
These upgrades are expected to significantly improve the visitor experience at local events, particularly the upcoming Bastrop Homecoming & Rodeo, which is scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 1 at Mayfest Park. The event is a cherished annual tradition featuring activities such as team roping, mutton bustin’, 4D jackpot barrel racing, rodeo slack, live music, vendors, and a parade.
City officials have emphasized the importance of these improvements in enhancing the comfort and enjoyment of attendees, ensuring that the park remains a vibrant hub for community gatherings and celebrations.
