Ilias Lasley, a Marshall County man convicted of murder, has filed a motion for a new trial ahead of his sentencing. Lasley was accused of shooting two people during a dispute in April 2024. The jury found him guilty of murder in Frances Gasca’s death but not in Mario Marillo’s.
Lasley’s lawyers claim the conviction for one shooting but not the other is inconsistent and argue that both incidents were acts of self-defense. Lasley’s sentencing is scheduled, and a judge has not yet ruled on the motion for a new trial.
