An 8-year-old boy from Iowa City, who is battling cancer, was honored by the Savannah Bananas during their game in Iowa City, creating a heartfelt moment for the young fighter and his family. The boy, Hugh Harvey, was first introduced by KCCI in October when he announced that Banana Ball was coming to Iowa. At the time, it was a moment of celebration as Hugh had just found out he was cancer-free. However, shortly after, Hugh learned that his cancer had returned. He is now undergoing treatment at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.
A Special Guest
The Savannah Bananas invited Hugh and his family to be their special guests in a suite for their first game. Hugh even had the chance to sing a song on the field with the team. The next day, the Harveys were invited back for another game, where they received backstage passes and a tour of the dugout. Hugh and his family also joined the Bananas as they waved to children at the same hospital where Hugh is receiving treatment.
