According to prosecutors, Verdone and his girlfriend were initially removed from the nightclub after their group became involved in a fight inside the venue. The pair returned briefly to retrieve the girlfriend’s lost heels and purse, only to be escorted out again when the girlfriend was described as “acting irate.”

Surveillance video captured Verdone’s car dragging Martinez approximately 60 feet before coming to a stop. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.
