Man Arrested After Sexual Assault of Woman on 15th Street in Park Slope

Brooklyn police are investigating a violent assault that occurred just after 3 a.m. on Saturday morning in the Park Slope neighborhood. According to officers, a man wearing gray cargo shorts, a black short‑sleeved shirt and a tan cap approached a 38‑year‑old woman from behind, shoved her to the ground and sexually assaulted her on 15th Street near 5th Avenue.

The attack took place in a well‑lit commercial corridor that is typically considered safe by residents. “It’s usually a very safe area. I let my daughter walk everywhere. I’m really shocked to hear that,” said Wiebke, a nearby resident who asked to remain anonymous.

Witnesses captured video of the incident on their phones, and the footage shows the suspect confronting the victim directly in front of several storefronts equipped with security cameras. “The right person might know that person. But it’s just like, that’s terrible. That’s disgusting,” said Willy, a local worker who also viewed the video.

Police have not released the victim’s destination at the time of the assault to protect her privacy. The woman confirmed she did not know the attacker, prompting detectives to issue a public request for help identifying the suspect.

Investigators have distributed flyers throughout the neighborhood describing the suspect’s appearance and the circumstances of the assault. They are asking anyone who saw the incident or who recognizes the individual to contact the NYPD’s 9‑1‑1 emergency line or the dedicated tip line at (212) 555‑0199.

Community Response

Local residents say they will remain vigilant and are hopeful that the perpetrator will be apprehended quickly. “We’ll stay alert and look out for each other,” said a resident who preferred not to be named. The community’s reaction underscores the importance of neighborhood watch efforts and the role of citizen cooperation in keeping Park Slope safe.

The NYPD confirmed that officers are reviewing all available video footage, including the security cameras of nearby businesses, to piece together a timeline of the suspect’s movements before and after the assault. They emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that they will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Police encourage anyone with additional details—no matter how minor—to come forward. “Even the smallest piece of information can make a big difference in solving this case,” a spokesperson said.

Residents are also reminded to practice personal safety measures, especially during early‑morning hours, such as traveling in groups, staying in well‑lit areas, and reporting suspicious behavior to law enforcement promptly.
