Jack Harlow donates 500+ books to fans at Louisville’s Carmichael’s Bookstore

Louisville native and Grammy‑winning rapper Jack Harlow returned to his hometown on Sunday to host a massive book giveaway at Carmichael’s Bookstore on Longest Avenue in the Highlands. More than 500 books, each valued up to $50, were handed out to fans who waited in a line that stretched around the block and onto Cherokee Road.

Fans traveled from across Kentucky and beyond to take part. Chelsea Jansen drove from Nashville, arriving early to secure a spot, while Mary Estevez made a 12‑hour road trip from Omaha, Nebraska, after first seeing Harlow at a Cherokee Park shoe‑release event. “I just like Jack Harlow. He doesn’t come to Nashville a whole lot, so I was like, why not take a road trip,” Jansen said.

Community spirit and local business support

Attendees were able to select a book of their choice, and Harlow signed autographs and posed for photos. For many, the giveaway was more than a free book; it was a chance to thank a hometown hero for giving back. “It’s nice seeing the artist give back to his community where he’s from,” said Kai Vance, a local chess enthusiast. “It’s something I really respect. And I just want to have a chance to say thank you.”

Harlow expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized the role of local businesses in shaping his upbringing. “I love reading, I love books, I love bookstores, I love the way I feel just when I walk into this place,” he said. “Supporting local businesses is an important part of giving back to the city that raised me. I want to continue to pour into that because that’s what I grew up on. I want us to have local businesses. Carmichael’s needs to be forever.”

Impact on the community

The event highlighted the power of community gatherings to foster connection and shared values. Harlow noted that the willingness of fans to wait in the heat spoke to their character. “Everyone that’s willing to wait for a book speaks volumes about what type of person you are,” he said. “I’m grateful to everybody for coming out. It gives us a real sense of community.”

The giveaway was made possible through the Jack Harlow Foundation, the artist’s nonprofit that focuses on education and youth enrichment. Harlow’s weekend in Louisville continues Monday with a concert at Old Forester’s Paristown Hall, and he hinted at new music on the horizon once his tour concludes.

Local residents and visitors left the event with new reading material, signed memorabilia, and a renewed appreciation for a hometown star who chose to celebrate his roots by investing in the people and businesses that shaped him.
