Nitra, a K9 with the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky, has received a donated protective vest thanks to a sponsorship through a national nonprofit organization.

Protecting Those Who Serve

The vest was provided by Vested Interest in K9s, a nonprofit founded in 2009 that aims to provide protective equipment to law enforcement dogs. This is the second vest donated to the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office, with another K9, Mayday, receiving a vest earlier in July.

According to the nonprofit, they have provided over 6,600 vests to K9s in all 50 states, valued at $6.9 million. Each vest has a value of $1,800, but a single donation of $1,050 can sponsor the cost of one vest. The vests come with a five-year warranty and weigh four to five pounds.

Nitra was able to receive the protective vest through Vested Interest in K9s’ sponsorship program, which is open to dogs over 20 months old who are actively employed and certified with law enforcement agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible for the program.
